Answers About Functional Medicine, Appointments, Testing & Treatment
-
Functional medicine is a personalized approach to healthcare that looks at how different systems in the body may be connected.
Rather than focusing only on individual symptoms, we take a broader look at your health history, symptoms, nutrition, lifestyle, medications, laboratory findings, hormones, gut health, metabolic health, sleep, stress, and other factors that may be contributing to how you feel.
Our goal is to better understand the bigger picture and create an individualized plan based on your needs.
-
Traditional medical care is essential for diagnosing and treating disease, managing acute illness, providing preventive care, and addressing emergencies.
Functional medicine may take a more detailed look at patterns across multiple areas of health and often places additional emphasis on nutrition, lifestyle, metabolic health, hormones, nutrient status, gastrointestinal health, and other potential contributors to persistent symptoms.
Functional medicine is not a replacement for emergency care or medically necessary specialty care.
-

We do not use a one-size-fits-all testing panel for every patient.
Testing recommendations are based on your health history, symptoms, previous results, current medications, treatment goals, and clinical needs.
Some patients may need more extensive testing than others.
-
If you have recent laboratory results, imaging, medication lists, or relevant medical records, they may be helpful for Dr. Turner to review.
Providing previous results can sometimes help avoid unnecessary duplicate testing and gives us a clearer understanding of your health history.

Your first new-patient visit is completed in person, and patients are generally required to have at least one in-office visit each year.
Availability may depend on your location and the type of care being provided.
-
Follow-up frequency depends on your individual situation.
Some patients require closer follow-up when beginning a new treatment plan, while others may need appointments less frequently once their care is established.
